Being a prison guard must be one of the most difficult jobs on earth. You are literally locked into a building with America’s worst people. And when you add in the fact that crime is rampant inside of prisons, the job gets even more harrowing.
One of the best ways to keep our prison guards safe is to stop contraband from flowing into the prison. Prison contraband includes alcohol, drugs and weapons. Weapons are obviously dangerous for prison guards, but drugs and alcohol also contribute to emotional flareups and flights. All of this contraband must be stopped in order to protect our prison guards.
That is why I am so excited to read about this new technology from Securus Technologies. Securus is essentially a telephone company. They are not the kind of telephone company that you can contract to give your apartment services. They exist to exclusively give telephone services to prisons and jails.
This gives them a great responsibility. They record every single telecommunication going into and out of a particular prison that they service. There is tons of valuable information hidden inside these recordings that law enforcement can use to prevent the flow of contraband into a prison.
This begs the question — how do you access this information?
Securus has developed a proprietary software program that allows law enforcement officers to search all of this data for actionable intelligence. The software program can dig deep into this digital database to find one particular person’s voice. All phone calls involving the suspect are brought up for law enforcement review.
This kind of technology can be used to prevent crimes. Those crimes taking place inside of prisons that put our prison guards at risk. This is exactly the type of technology that should be developed and implemented by prison phone companies.
